Design a project that address a specific social issue.the project is activity day center for people ages 65 and over - Essay Example England has about four thousand six hundred adult day care centres in operation providing care to a total of 13 elderly people in England on a daily basis. Over seventy percent of these adult day care centres operate on a not for profit or public basis. Most funding for the operation of these centres mainly comes from participant fees, third party payers, and philanthropic sources. Adult day care is a service given to the frail, physically or cognitively impaired adults, seniors, and their caregivers. Some of the centres are associated with multi service entities like home care, assisted living, nursing facilities, and hospitals. Adult day care programs provide adults with services in a community based group setting. These programs are generally geared towards providing day time social and health services to the elderly who require supervised care away from the home such as transportation for daily needs, meals and snacks with provisions for special dietary needs, programs for stimulating activities, opportunities for social interaction with peers and mental stimulation, physical, occupational, and speech therapy in a non medical setting, and help with activities for daily needs. The main purpose of Veo Activity day Centre is to assist the elderly to prevent social isolation and loneliness. The reduction of social interaction difficulties that older people face, may be countered by activities that the centre will provide such as arts and craft, dancing, quiz puzzles, board games, walks and tours, singing, and flower arrangement. The aim of of Veo Activity centre will be to motivate the people over sixty five years by encouraging them to participate in the planning of activities within the centre, and to assist those with disabilities to be independent and socially integrated thus giving respite to those closer to them such as relatives and carers. Veo Activity day Centre will have a project

Racial Disproportionality in the United States Prison System Research Paper

Racial Disproportionality in the United States Prison System - Research Paper Example Information gathered by the Political Research Associates (2005) reveal that the criminal justice system is generally racist. Even as most people in the US feel that we have already overcome our racist history, these practices are still very much apparent in our society today. This is apparent in the fact that, out of the 2.1 million adult men and women in our prisons, about 70% of these are blacks, Hispanics, Asians, and other racial minorities. These people of color are being imprisoned at a rate which is very much disproportionate, and they are not given access to the rehabilitation options which are often given to their white counterparts; they are also more prone to abuse and harassment by various government agencies (Political Research Associates, 2005). Although rates of crime commission are higher among people of color, they are also being disproportionately targeted in terms of unfair treatment within the criminal justice system. Only about 12.7% of the US population is made up of Black-Americans, however, 2003 surveys reveal that they comprise 48.2% of the adult population in federal, state, and local prisons (Prison Activist Resource Center, 2003). In relation to drug abuse, the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse declare that 72% drug users are whites, and only 15% are blacks; and yet, a greater percentage of blacks are imprisoned for drug offences (in Human Rights Watch, 2000). The Latin population makes up only about 11% of the US population, and about 10% of overall drug users in the US; however, 18.6% of the US prison population is made up of these Latinos, and 22.5% of them have been convicted for drug-related crimes (Political Research Associates, 2005). In relation to the death penalty convicts, a significant percentage (42.5%) are African-Americans, and these numbers represent more than three times the percentage for African Americans in the entire US population (Political Research Associates, 2005). Surveys carried out in 2003 also revealed that whites were imprisoned at a rate of 376 for every 100,000 individuals. This is in stark contrast to the statistics for people of color, with Indians imprisoned at a rate o f 709 for every 100,000, Latinos at 997 per 100,000 of their population, and for the African-Americans, at a rate of 2526 for every 100,000 (Political Research Associates, 2005). African-American males already have a 32% probability of serving time at any point in their lives; Hispanics are at a 17% probability; and for whites, they have a significantly lower probability of spending any time in jail at 6% (Political Research Associates, 2005). In reviewing this disproportionate trend in the American prison systems, it is necessary to evaluate the practices in the criminal justice system which has caused this racial disproportion in the American prisons. First of all, among adult drivers, blacks have an 11.2% probability of being pulled over as compared to

Alternative dispute resolution methods Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Alternative dispute resolution methods - Essay Example The cost of ADR can be very high if caution is not taken to make sure the process handled effectively. Gates insists on the need to manage the process to make sure the cost is kept low, and a resolution is reached quickly. The hospital stands to lose a lot if the patient files a lawsuit. The settlement might be too high, and the public image of the institution will be tarnished. An effective of management of the whole process is necessary to avoid mishaps. The advantage is that the issue has been assessed early. Therefore, the hospital is in a position to effectively manage the process. There is time to analyze all the factors surrounding the dispute and come up with a viable settlement.Negotiation is characterized by independent parties meeting to discuss a solution that benefits both parties having a dispute. According to Gates, the need for effective negotiation skills is among the ten essential elements of an effective resolution process. In most cases, negotiation is overlooked when parties consider using ADR. In the case of General Hospital, negotiation can lead to a resolution, or it can be the start of an effective dispute resolution method. Research has shown that the chances of success are high if the hospital takes an interest-based approach in this case. Negotiation is voluntary, less expensive, and offers an opportunity to regain the trust of the patient who was harmed. On the downside, it might take long to reach a solution because there is no third party neutral in negotiation.

Nepal Essay -- Nepal Economy Culture Essays

Nepal Despite nine development plans spanning five decades, Nepal remains one of the world’s poorest countries. Nepal’s underdevelopment is a result of the historical effects of unequal distribution of assets and social and economic status among different groups, and effects of recent development efforts that have generated further iniquitous income and assets distribution. Understanding Nepal’s underdevelopment has become particularly pressing in light of the Maoist insurgency that began in 1996. In addition to the deaths of more than 6,000 civilians, instability has caused economic stagnation, discouraged foreign investment, and prevented the expansion of the hydropower and tourism industries. Nepal’s future depends on an understanding of how its institutions have created inequity, and how it will respond to the need for institutional reform. Culturally, Nepal is a patriarchal and hierarchical society. Caste is important in the world’s only Hindu nation. Gender, ethnicity, land ownership, and location are also historically important social determinants. Nepal’s history and geography have contributed to the perpetuation of these cultural values. Historically, Nepal has been very isolated. Situated between China and India, it is bisected by the Himalayas. The country is divided into three bands running from east to west – the Himalayas furthest north, the flat and dry Terai in the South, and the middle hills sandwiched in between. Extreme differences in topography, and a lack of roadways and efficient transportation, have meant that communities tended to remain isolated and distinct, closely linked to traditional cultural practices and norms. Industry has been slow to change this, as most Nepalese depend upo... ...astern Nepal, respondents reported that â€Å"society does not recognize the merit of physical work in agriculture; it encourages people to prefer leisure over work, and sees working people as belonging to the lower classes. So far, foreign aided projects have not been able to alter people’s attitudes towards physical work by providing alternate examples† (Shrestha, 41). Even as development efforts increase, rural people mistrustful of exploitation, and depressed by development failures, are growing harder to reach. Nepal’s political crisis is a response to social inequalities increased and hardened by recent development. Future development will require radical reform: redistribution of resources and increased rural development, weakening of traditional power structures, increased access to and transparency in government, and independence from foreign interests.

Aquiring Admissable Statements Essay

1. When reviewing the legal requirements to acquire an admissible statement, what similarities did you find among the four states? In general the similarities among the four states pertain to the use of public records such as religious ones, family history, documents more than 20 years old, recorded recollections, the absence of public records, vital statistics, statements about the declarant’s present sense impressions or the declarant’s the existing mental, physical or emotional state, statements about the person’s medical condition. Arizona, Illinois and New York also allow telephone conversations to be admitted into evidence as long as one part has consented to such recording (Pilgrim Software, 2007). 2. What differences did you find among the four states? California requires both parties’ consent to telephone conversation recording for the telephone call to be admitted as evidence (Pilgrim Software, 2007). California has admitted hearsay statements by victims who were murdered, as demonstrated by the (Colb, 2008) Giles v. California. New York Evidence Law (2006) does not allow prior consistent statements. They can only be used to disprove misassigned motive, as demonstrated by People v. Seit, 86 N.Y.2d 92 (1995) (p. 15).However, New York has made exceptions to such statements when they apply to present impressions (p. 15). Out-of-court identifications made by persons not present is treated as hearsay (p. 15). This is also true for California (DiCarlo, 2001). In Arizona, former testimony in a non-criminal action or proceeding is admissible. If it relates to criminal actions or proceedings it is inadmissible (â€Å"Arizona rules,† 2009). Yet, Arizona allows firsthand written accounts of the person’s activities or routines (2009). Illinois (2011) contends that one must â€Å"[†¦] prove the content of a writing, recording, or photograph, the original writing, recording, or photograph is required, except as otherwise provided in these rules or by statute† in order to be admitted. If the original is unavailable, exceptions might be made (2011). 3. What do you consider the most interesting concept regarding your comparison of admissible statements for these states? Perhaps, the most interesting concept regarding the comparison of admissible statements and hearsay exceptions for these states lie within the small and pivotal differences between them. Almost every difference is explained by a court case in that particular state. when one considers that each state has a few exceptions to the federal rules of evidence and hearsay, I cannot help but wonder whether such exceptions are constitutional.

Christian Education through Biblical Worldview - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1468 Downloads: 6 Date added: 2019/06/12 Category Religion Essay Level High school Tags: Biblical Worldview Essay Did you like this example? Introduction Biblical worldview can be defined as the way in which we see the world around us and the reality we as individuals choose to live. This is based on what we believe is correct and how we are called to live our lives by Jesus. (Ephesians 4: 17-22) So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Christian Education through Biblical Worldview" essay for you Create order They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. That, however, is not the way of life you learned when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. Biblical Worldview Biblical worldview means that a person decides to live their life by what the bible tells them it is the honest and respectful way of living. As Graham states, As God has also sent us His Spirit to lead us into knowledge and wisdom, we are not left entirely to our own devises to understand what we read in the Bible, what we read in the creation, or what we know as creatures in Christ. As redeemed children of God, we have every reason to believe that when Godrs written Word, along with His creation Word, are interpreted through the Spirit by a person who is alive in Christ, we will be able to sufficiently (not perfectly) understand the necessary norms for our cultural activity (Pg. 23) When a person sees life through a biblical world view, they no longer act and do as they wish, they now follow the teachings of God and what they believe Christ wants them to do. A person with a biblical world view understands that Christ will give them the knowledge they need to understand how somethin g is supposed to be done. Christ will guide them in everything they do in life and teach others by example as well. The outcome an individual gets from using the bible as a means of understanding how they should act in an every day basis depends on the way each person decides to take what they read and how they decided to put it into action. Many times, a person will not get the exact words they need or want to see but as believers we have to learn to interpret what Jesus is trying to tell them. Christian Philosophy of Education The Christian philosophy of education is that we will live our lives in a way in which God is reflected on what we do. Graham states, Education is the process whereby we learn to act like God and to do His work. As we commune with God in that process, and as we study His creation we are able to do the work that He has called us to do and do it in His ways (pg.50) The Christian philosophy of education is that if a person receives an education based on what God expects from us we will see the positive effects of a person with morals, respect, and love. Once a person has learned what is Christian life should look like they can go out to the world and teach others as well. Receiving a Christian education, students will learn the Christian beliefs and be able to understand them, as well as to integrate those beliefs into the rest of the school subjects. Every human being has a purpose in life. If a child receives a Christian education at school as well as at home, they will learn what that purpose is and how to use it in a beneficial way. The reason why someone chooses to give their children a Christian education is to create a person who will follow the path that God wants them to take. The way that people will learn how to behave or how to be more Christian like will be to study and read the bible as well as to utilize the teachers who are supposed to be guiding them in the correct direction. When a person is knowledgeable about the bible and being Christian, they are able to implement those beliefs into any other subject, including, science, history, art, math, or whatever other subject the children are supposed to be learning. The Christian philosophy of education also consists of helping children understand what God wants from us and feel it in their hearts. Children are not just supposed to learn something from a book without feeling it, like it is done with all the other textbooks very often. Bartlett, John C. (2007), states, It is imperative that Christians develop a philosophy of education based on the truth of the Scriptures and a complete understanding of Godrs desire that man enter a relationship with him. This philosophy of education is based on two distinct realities: 1) God desires a relationship with every individual; therefore, education must have the purpose to develop and nurture such a relationship. 2) Every individual has a unique purpose in life as defined by God; therefore, education must prepare every student to fulfill their God given purpose. It is important that a person who says they are Christians knows how to live their life because many others may follow in their footsteps and th e purpose might be to teach others how God wants us to live our life. Implications for Educational Practice As a School counselor, it is important to understand that everyone is different, and everyone deserves the same respect and love because this is what we have been taught as Christian believers. The implications in being successful as a teacher or a school counselor would be to help students reach their academic goals as well as deal with situation that they have to face in life. Using our knowledge, not only academically but in faith we will be able to support and encourage our students in whatever it is that we have to deal with along with them. While doing this as Christian educators we should keep in mind, how we can guide them in the direction that they will follow the purpose that God has for them whether it is academically or in their personal circumstance. When we are trying to tell someone that there is a certain way in which we should live our life and we tell them that this is what God would want us to do, we should be an example for them. (Titus 2: 7-8) Do what is good. Set an example for them in everything. When you teach, be honest and serious. No one can question the truth So teach what is true. Then those who oppose you will be ashamed. Thatrs because they will have nothing ad to say about us. Our worldview might be living our life to do as God wants us to. This scripture could not be more accurate, if we want others to live in a way in which we believe it is the correct way we should do the same. It does not matter if our students are looking at us or not, this should be something within our heart, that we know what is right and what is wrong. The Liberty University Conceptual Frameworks is the best example of what a Christian education is based on. First, educators must make sure that the student knows the Christian values, moral dimensions, and ethical implications synthesized with academic knowledge. Second, they will teach students the skills as a gift from God, because teaching/leadership is a calling from God. Third, the students must believe and practice personal integrity, social responsibility, sensitivity to the needs of others, and the betterment of humanity. Educators must understand what a responsibility it is to oversee children and what an important job it is to teach children and they must have the love to do this type of job. As I have mentioned before educators are called to live a life of good example for others. If we are the ones guiding, we should make sure that they are going in the direction where they are supposed to be heading. Graham states, As Godrs image bearers, Christian teachers are called to reflect the character of our creative redemptive God and to live according to His truth. The purpose of Christian education is to teach children about the love of God and know that we should try to mirror the actions of God which include, love, peace, forgiveness and acceptance of everyone, just to mention a few. Being Christian does not mean we are perfect, it means we keep trying to do better every day knowing that God forgives us and that we should let everyone around us know this as well.
